Original Symbol of Peaceful Environments

Students will brainstorm the characteristics of a peaceful environment, and then using crayons, markers, or colored pencils, they will each create an original symbol of their chosen characteristic. Examples of commonly used ideas and their symbols include recycling and the recycle symbol, peacefulness and the peace symbol, and love and the heart symbol.

This assessment does not include a rubric.

This item has been voluntarily field-tested by Michigan teachers with a non-representative sample of students.


This is an analytic rubric. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
