Locate This Artwork

Students will be given photos of three works of art, each on a separate page. All references to the setting of the artwork have been removed; students can only see the work itself. They will be asked to create an environment around each work of art showing where they would find the piece displayed. Students will then be asked to reflect on the method of display, the location, and how a viewer’s experience of the work influences how it is perceived and valued.

This item has not been field-tested by Michigan teachers.

This is an analytic rubric. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
