Review Your Portfolio

Students will review their portfolios for the class midway through the semester or trimester. Each student will select what they consider to be their most successful work and their least successful work, based on the dimensions of creativity, craftsmanship, composition, and communication of content. They will write artist’s statements in response to guiding questions that support their selections. The students will then present their artist’s statements. Students should be familiar with the terms “creativity,” “craftsmanship,” “composition,” and “communication of content.” The assessment will conclude with students engaging in peer critiques.

This item has been voluntarily field-tested by Michigan teachers with a non-representative sample of students.

These are analytic rubrics. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
