Learn to tell the story of your teaching, student growth, and your discipline.  MAEIA tools and resources support teachers and administrators in 1) planning, 2) measuring student growth with MAEIA assessments, and 3) presenting student data and portfolio materials as evidence of teacher effectiveness.

Phase I: Planning to demonstrate educator effectiveness

The MAEIA approach to planning for your academic year includes selecting assessments that fit your planned instruction; using them with students to create artistic ideas and works; analyzing student responses; selecting student work samples/exemplars that demonstrate and communicate educator effectiveness; and more. (See supporting materials in sidebar.)

Phase II: Measuring student growth with MAEIA assessments

There are three ways to use MAEIA assessments as part of your data collection to demonstrate effectiveness. Each assessment booklet explains the method most suited to the particular assessment. Our resources also show you how to track changes in teaching and learning due to the information gained through the MAEIA assessments. (See supporting materials in sidebar.)

Phase III: Presenting evidence of educator effectiveness

Be empowered to teach your administrator about learning in your classroom! Present MAEIA student assessment data along with documentation of the steps you’ve taken to instruct, support, and encourage students. (See supporting materials in sidebar.)

What does Michigan Law allow?

PA 173 of 2015 requires annual evaluation for all teachers and administrators based on demonstrated effectiveness in two areas: Professional Practice and Student Growth. MAEIA’s 360 performance assessments are aligned to Michigan standards; data that results from using MAEIA assessments are allowable as a local student growth measure when determining teacher effectiveness in the arts.
