Create a Context-Appropriate Playlist

In this assessment, students will create a playlist of music that they would use in a specific setting. The assessment has three parts. In Part 1, the teacher will provide an example and guide brainstorming. Students will identify a setting for which a playlist would be appropriate. Examples will be provided, but students should be allowed to choose their own settings. Alternatively, the teacher could assign settings to students. In Part 2, students will create an appropriate playlist for their chosen setting. In Part 3, students will justify their musical choices using appropriate music terminology.

This item has not been field-tested by Michigan teachers.

This is an analytic rubric. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
