Reflect on and Refine Your Work

Students will reflect on their work prior to its completion. After reflection, students will develop a plan to refine and complete their work.

This model will work best with a longer-term, more thoughtful project. The work selected should be about three-fourths done—far enough along to analyze and reflect on, but not so far along that students are less inclined to think about making changes.

Be prepared to copy the students’ Reflections and Work Plans to return to them as they complete their work. This could also be useful to them for writing an artist statement and/or selecting work for exhibition.

This is an analytic rubric. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
