A Trip to the Zoo

Students will memorize and perform combinations relating to stationary, axial, and locomotor movement. Students will work together as a group to explore both stationary and locomotor movements. This event will give students an opportunity to demonstrate self-directed learning by moving from station to station while demonstrating both stationary and locomotor movements at low, middle, and high levels.

This assessment can be adapted for both kindergarten and first-grade benchmarks by decreasing the number of stations that are used during Part 2.

This item has not been field-tested by Michigan teachers.

1 Educator Effectiveness MethodThis assessment can be used in demonstrating arts educator effectiveness by changing the prompt(s) used, if any, and repeating the item one or more times. Sufficient instructional time on the underlying concepts assessed (not the assessment item itself) should occur so that change in student performance is possible. This is especially suitable for assessments (e.g., MAEIA events) that require less time and effort to administer.

D.EL.P.1 – Students can perform choreography as soloists and part of an ensemble with spatial awareness, musicality, and accuracy in technical principles relating to stationary, axial, and locomotor movement, as well as time, space, and energy.
Content Standard
ART.D.EL.3 – Demonstrate shapes at low, middle, and high levels.

ART.D.I.2.3 – Explore shapes at low, middle and high levels using non-locomotor/axial movements.
NCAS Anchor Standard
DA:Cr1 – Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
