Changing the Timing of a Movement Phrase

Students will create a movement phrase that includes the elements of dance—time, space, force, and energy. Working with a partner, students will create a movement phrase with a beginning pose, two stationary movements, two traveling movements, and an ending pose. The students will have an opportunity to change the timing of the movement phrase and to present both the original movement phrase and the new movement phrase to the teacher. This assessment can be adapted for struggling readers by having the teacher read instructions aloud.

This is an analytic rubric. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
