Create and Sing DO-MI-SOL Patterns

After the songs (“Great Big House” and “Love Somebody”) have been learned, students will create tonal patterns on a neutral syllable between repetitions of a song in the first two class periods. In the second class period, the class will echo the patterns. On days 3 and 4, students will individually create different DO-MI-SOL patterns and insert the patterns into a song. Both parts will be video recorded. All singing should be unaccompanied.

This item has been voluntarily field-tested by Michigan teachers with a non-representative sample of students.

These are analytic rubrics. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
