Dance vs. Everyday Gestures

Students will observe and identify everyday human movement patterns. Students will create a list of everyday activities and gestures. After selecting gestures, students will perform, describe, and demonstrate how these everyday human movements can be developed into dancelike movement. For this assessment, students should have prior knowledge and understanding of the elements of dance: time, space, and energy, including use of body and action.

These are analytic rubrics. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
